Commission a Painting |
Anne paints healing silks for
people recovering from or living with illness and pain, or
for offices of those engaged in healing practices.
These give serenity and release from pain while brightening hospital rooms,
waiting rooms, offices,
and homes of those undergoing treatments or
in palliative care.
Before painting Anne asks
questions about colour, theme, size, and the situation of the
person to whom the painting will be gifted. She often paints with a
picture of this person in front of her. The commission is mailed with
a card describing the images and intent. Please review our
Purchase Information section below for
further information.

Care of your
painting on silk |
Unpacking and
repacking your painting
Unroll your
painting on a flat, clean, hard surface.
Anne uses a white sheet spread on her
kitchen table. Make sure your hands are
clean and dry. Keep all of the plastic,
tissue paper, shipping tube, and inner
tissue-covered core for future
transportation of your painting. Remove the
tissue paper as you unroll the painting and
flatten the paper for later use. Unroll the
painting slowly, noting how it was packed,
so you can roll it up again. Try to handle
the silk as little as possible. When you do
need to touch it, hold it by its edges.
To repack
your painting, lay it on top of one piece of
tissue paper on a clean, flat, hard surface.
Place the tissue covered inner core on the
bottom edge of the painting. Pick up the
bottom tissue paper and the painting and
roll flat and smoothly against the tissue
core. Add more tissue as needed until silk
is completely rolled. Wrap in plastic and
put in tube. Take care not to wrinkle or
handle the silk too much.
If absolutely
necessary, your painting can be steamed
carefully on the wrong side of the fabric at
a low setting (silk setting) with a
pillowcase or other piece of cloth between
the silk and the iron. Keep moving the iron;
do not let it rest on the fabric. Use
distilled water in the iron. We cannot be
responsible for any damage to your painting
incurred while ironing. Please contact us if
you have concerns or are unsure how to
proceed.
Many of our
healing paintings go back and forth from house
to hospital. If you expect your painting to need
this kind of temporary hanging arrangement,
please advise us and we will sew temporary loops
in the top two corners of the painting. These
loops can be used to pin the painting to a
hospital curtain or tack to a wall. NEVER pin or
tack directly through the silk. When or if you
decide to frame your silk, remove these loops.
Exposure to
direct light over a period of time will damage
the silk fibers (though the paint is lightfast),
so please don’t hang your painting in a window
or the silk will deteriorate. Anne’s paintings
are best displayed professionally framed. Anne uses an off-white matte and
gold frame when framing for exhibitions. For
other framing or hanging questions, please
contact us. |
