Canadian artist Anne Camozzi paints in her Nova Scotia studio overlooking Antigonish Harbor on the northern shore of Nova Scotia. An early passion for the arts led to an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University (Toronto, Canada) in 1976. After graduating, she worked briefly as a TV & Radio news reporter for CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and then moved to Nova Scotia where she earned a Masters in Adult Education at Saint Francis Xavier University. While raising two children, she worked as an environmental consultant and university senior administrator.

In 2003, illness forced Anne to slow her fast paced lifestyle and on the advice of her physiotherapist she began drawing as a distraction from pain. She soon regained the love of art she had as a young woman, discovering a talent for silk paintings based on the French Serti method. Since then she has created many paintings, drawing inspiration from dreams, Nature and the connections between the natural world and the human spirit. She is especially interested in her art as a form of healing for herself, others, and the Earth.

French Serti Technique

First, the silk is washed and ironed in preparation for painting. Anne stretches white silk on a frame, and draws a resist line with gutta, often a continuous line and rarely preplanned unless it is a specific commissioned piece. Once the drawing is completed, special paint for silk is applied with watercolour brushes. Sometimes gutta is applied after painting or not at all. Once paintings are completed the color is set using steam.
